In the Delicatessen
Our aim is to source and stock the finest products from around the world, with a special focus on the superb produce of Scotland. To that end, we offer over 100 different cheeses and more than 200 whiskies. With provenance to the forefront of our minds, and to whet your appetite, our stock in the delicatessen includes:
Salar's flaky hot smoked salmon from South Uist, winner of numerous awards, and a Rick Stein food hero...the best hot smoked salmon we have found so far...
An award winning range of smart, quirky and more importantly, tasty chutneys, pickles and antipasti from Bob and Lynn Henshelwood on the Island of Bute. Choose from the gin and tonic turnips, the mulled wine beets, the vodka and orange onions, the Old Bute chutney or the bloody mary salsa for oysters!
Charles McLeod's world-famous black pudding - a Gold Medal winner in the Great Taste Awards in previous years. We have the black and white pudding in three sizes, small medium and large and the fruit pudding in small and medium.
Robert and Rosie Campbell-Preston of Inverawe supply us with their fine range, now known worldwide, including smoked kippers, smoked cods roe, smoked eel and a glorious trout caviar.
Ramsay of Carluke - The only Scottish butchers who make Ayrshire bacon using the traditional Ayrshire cure. Winners of numerous awards and arguably the best bacon available, their haggis won the Gold prizes in the Great Taste Awards 2009. We stock plenty of it!
Isle of Mull mature cheddar from Sgriob Ruadh Dairy by Tobermory. A superb crumbly cheddar, two years matured and sometimes with blue veining through it. It's like the marmite thing - you either love it or you hate it! Our customers in the deli love it and we get through about 30 odd kilos a week!
Island Bakery in Tobermory is where the scrumptious range of organic biscuits hail from. The chocolate gingers are, well, scrumptious. The lemon melts are our best seller, but I think our favourites are the apple crumble...mmm!
John The Cheese, aka J R Fine Foods, supplies us with the superb Isle of Kintyre cheeses - so popular with locals and tourists alike. Choose from the Captains Claret, Plain Jane, Lazy Ploughmans, Chilli, Ben Gunn, Lairds Mustard and Old Smokey.
From outwith Scotland
Our range of the finest artisan dried pasta from Filotea, imported direct from Ancona. It cooks in just one to three minutes and it's rougher on the outside than other pastas, thus it retains more sauce on it than most - What more can you ask from for a pasta?!
From Seggiano we stock the superb range of olive oil, antipasti, honey, pate and at Christmas the fantastic Pan-Forte.
Our antipasti range including pepperdews stuffed with fromage frais, grilled peppers, artichoke hearts, semi sundried and sundried tomatoes, balsamic onions and mussels in spicy sauce (to name a few) is exceptional. - Please call us on 01631 566332 or call into the deli to order this product.
From Australia we stock what has become a real local success story, Lowe Family Wines. Jane Wilson, a native of Oban, and her husband David Lowe produce a most impressive range of wines with a distinctly European leaning from their Mudgee, New South Wales base. Jane makes the reds, David the whites. Their 2003 won the International Zinfandel Trophy at the 2005 International Wine Challenge (9000 entries) out-doing the Califorian Zin Kings.
From England and Wales
From Suffolk we stock the superb range of sauces from Stokes: Tomato ketchup that tastes of tomatoes, mayonnaises made with free range eggs, caesar dressing with real parmesan, tartare sauce crunchy with capers and coronation sauce fit for a queen. Overall, a superb range of exceptional condiments and sauces, to compliment all things fishy, meaty and veggie!
Colston Bassett Stilton is, we believe, still the finest available. This cheese was never made in Stilton, and even today is protected by a certification trademark, so that it can only be made in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
Seasoned pioneers supply us with a great range of seasonings packaged to be used rather than looked at. We also stock their tasty ready to heat sauces in varying colours, styles and heats!
